FOCUS
Let's start by looking at the word “FOCUS”. If I was to say to you describe
its definition. Not the dictionary's statement, but your own. (Insert the
dictionary def)
When you think of that “word” do you get a picture in your head, a feeling
or maybe you say something to yourself? Everyone is unique.
If you isolate the word focus and begin to understand that like everything
in life, words aren't real. It is simply a bunch of swirly lines that we
have in the English speaking world have defined a certain meaning too.
So if we have all have our own definitions, then is focus context dependent?
Most people are conditioned from birth to focus on what we don't want. Think
about it you will have to email me and let me know but growing up in the
UK it seems that we are told that you always have to think about the worst
scenario first, as if at least you understand what that is then you if happens
you are prepared for it. I remember about to leave to drive somewhere for
a meeting or an appointment and was told that I should leave extra early
in case my car breaks down, or I get into a crash, the list goes on but you
get the idea.
The pessimistic approach I call it. I don't mean in a sense that they are
always moaning and unhappy, well not all the time; but for the majority of
the population who think this way they are coming from a place of caring
and love but don't realise that they are running the same program which probably
flows through all areas of there life.
Does that mean although it comes form a caring place that it is right or
helpful? Should that be something that we “Model” or replicate or maybe we
should learn form it and do the opposite.
In NLP we use something called Perception is projection. So what we perceive
to be real and focus on we project out into out reality. In other words what
we think about all the time grows stronger. Negative or positive.
Everything in life is a choice and that includes the thoughts that we choose
to hold onto and focus on. Going back to habitual focus strategy of the UK
(and most of the World), focusing on what we don't want.
In my humble opinion just this one pint can make us feel sad, angry and
whatever else we choose to keep thinking about. If we simply just redirect
our focus onto a thought that feels nice, it will change 100% of your unconscious
physiology and what is projected into the world and how people and life will
respond to you. What ever we choose to focus on and sit in a thought that
is attached to an emotion that we don't want to feel i.e. this could be the
pain of still holding onto an Ex, a lost loved one whatever the focus of
the thoughts we have and what we focus our attention on means that most people
sit in negative feeling sometimes all their lives and the sad thing is they
don't have the mental tolls to change where they are redirecting this.
Let me explain, Imagine a gigantic warehouse, in this warehouse there is
Infinite possibilities of the realities of your life in their, good and bad.
It is dark and all you have is your trusty flash light of focus. If you can
only truly only focus on a few things at once to get results, where are you
shining it. As health is in there, but so is sickness. Wealth is in there,
but so is poverty. Success is in there but so is failure, Happiness but so
is sadness.
Where are you shining your light?
Another example is when you type something in Google, what comes up? That's
right topics about what you have typed in, right? So does that mean that
the rest of the internet has disappeared? Of course not. Nut that is how
our minds work! What we focus on we get.
Think about it, whatever your belief of how the earth works, whether that
is a Quantum soup of pure potentiality, or a predestined future, or were
just here on earth get what were given and get on with it. Wouldn't you at
least want to feel happy??
Why is it that some people's lives form the outside seem terrible, full
of heart ache and pain but that person still walks around with a huge smile
on their face? Other people's lives that have all the egotistical toys in
the world and money and still are unhappy?
Many years ago I worked for a company that was one of the most Elite travel
companies in the World. 98% of all Concorde bookings went through them, Dukes
and Duchesses booked through them. What I found quite interesting is that
was that would phone up and I would hear the stories hat these people would
phone up and spend half there time moaning about there lives. But haven't
they got everything you could desire?
Where was their flashlight of focus?
My point to this article; and there is a point. Is be very careful in life
where your focus is directed, ask yourself is it where you want it to be
for your future, as where ever you point it for long enough that is what
will grow stronger. Money is all well and good but if it is just for the
sake of buying things and having a fat bank account, what is the cost?
If your focus is on creating your ecological dream, while buying a few more
flashlights a long the way to keep on looking foreword for happiness, then
I know you will do great.
Contact me to help you direct that flashlight of yours in the right place
for you now.
